Mysteries and Secrets – Day 11

1 Corinthians 15:51

Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed.

The Thought

At first reading out of context, this sounds like an exciting verse, and it is! Paul is trying to explain to his readers what will happen at Christ’s return: we will all be changed. It is necessary for us to be changed, because life on earth and life in Heaven are two totally different experiences. We need new heavenly bodies, our earthly ones will not be suitable for Heaven’s atmosphere, in the same way that space travellers must wear space suits to go out of earth’s atmosphere. We won’t receive space suits, but we will receive bodies that can survive outside earth’s atmosphere!

For believers who have already died, they will have been changed at death, and gone straight to Heaven. Many people across the world have had experiences of visiting Heaven, some have seen relatives there and been re-assured that they made it through! Others have returned from those dreams or visions absolutely convinced that Heaven is a real place, and they are ready to convince anyone who will listen.

If ever you have accompanied anyone through their moments of death, you will know that something happens that is unexplainable, not just that the person stopped breathing, but often that a peace descends in the room.

But Paul is telling us in the verse for today, that those who are still living when Jesus makes His final call to take all His family to Heaven, will not have that death experience, we will not sleep, but we will all be changed.

Action

Read 1 Corinthians 15 today and share some of what you think about death with someone else.

Pray for any you know who are nearing death, for a revelation of Jesus for them.
