Children of God – Day 11
All of us have a long way to go to live in the total freedom God has for us. Because there is always more. Too many of us are living under restrictions that can be self imposed or church imposed because of our false ideas of what a Christian is.
Romans 8:21
– the glorious freedom of the children of God.
The Thought
Another characteristic of the children of God is the freedom they can experience. Freedom from worry, freedom from fear, freedom from sickness, freedom from addictions, freedom to be who God has called each of us to be. But reading this verse in full gives us a different picture. That of the longing of creation itself to be liberated!
For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation itself was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay, and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. Romans 8:19-21
Some translations use the freedom and glory of the children of God at the end of those verses. All of us have a long way to go to live in the total freedom God has for us. Because there is always more. Too many of us are living under restrictions that do not come from the Lord. They can be self imposed or “church imposed” because of our false ideas of what a Christian is. Too many people outside the church think that to be a Christian, one has to follow a long list of “do-nots”. How sad that they cannot see Jesus in action in our lives.
Action
What do you think “creation itself” would look like if it was totally liberated from the curse of weeds, poisonous plants, animals who bite, insects which sting?
Pray for the false ideas of “what a Christian is” to be dispelled from your life, and from your church.
Praise God that “there is always more”. Praise Jesus who sets us free so that we can be free indeed (John 8:36).
