7 Seals – Day 4

Revelation 5:4-5

I cried bitterly because no one was found who deserved to open the scroll or look inside it.
Then one of the leaders said to me, “Stop crying! The Lion from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has won the victory. He can open the scroll and the seven seals on it.”

The Thought

John was overcome by the thought that all the secrets would stay secret because nobody could open the scroll. Nobody was perfect enough!

Because we know the story, we recognise the only qualified person is Jesus. But maybe John didn’t when he was first experiencing these visions. He must have spent much time later meditating on all he had seen.

It is probable that John knew the prophetic visions of Daniel where we read that the scroll was sealed up until the time of the end (Daniel 12:4&9).

John was comforted by an elder who reassured him that all is well, and gave us 2 of the Saviour’s names:

  • The Lion of the tribe of Judah, (a name which has been special to me since I had several visions of Him at the beginning of this 21st century).
Just before his death, Jacob, (who had been renamed Israel) was blessing each of his sons. He declared that Judah was a lion cub (Genesis 49:8-10). Much of that blessing was a prophecy of the Messiah who would come centuries later.
  • The Root of David. Jesus was in the earthly family line of King David and born in the same place: Bethlehem. In Isaiah 11:1-5 we read of the “stump of Jesse”. David was Jesse’s youngest son, and many of his qualities fit the earthly life of Jesus.

Action

Take time today to read Isaiah 11. Be encouraged that Jesus fit the description, completed His earthly work, and is now reigning from Heaven.

Rejoice in that. But if the idea scares you, and gives you more questions than answers, then ask your Heavenly Father to give you His peace.
