Psalm 119 – Day 10

Psalm 119:41-48

May your unfailing love come to me, Lord, Your salvation, according to Your promise; then I can answer anyone who taunts me, for I trust in Your word. Never take Your word of truth from my mouth, for I have put my hope in Your laws. I will always obey Your law, for ever and ever. I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out Your precepts. I will speak of Your statutes before kings and will not be put to shame, for I delight in Your commands because I love them. I reach out for Your commands, which I love, that I may meditate on Your decrees.

The Thought

This makes me think of the New Year Resolutions made by people in some parts of the world, when they promise themselves and anyone else who might be interested, that the coming year will be different. Most of us have made rash decisions on December 31st that the coming year will not be the same. We will read our Bibles more and pray more and bring at least some of our friends or neighbours to church!

Somehow the new year moves into February and we feel guilty that we have not kept our resolutions, so we give up and decide it is too hard for this year, because we have so many other commitments so we promise God that we will try again the next year!

If instead of promising God things we suspect we can’t accomplish, just going off past experiences, we could just try to keep our own promises to ourself. We could read more of the Bible, pray more, worship more, and watch Christian programmes on our TV sets and computer screens. If our personal faith grows, then like David we will talk to God all day long in our hearts, and people will see the difference!
