Let Us make man in Our own image. Let no-one tell you that you are descended from apes, gorillas or any other creature. We already mentioned that briefly on day 12. The Bible is clear. Everything was made according to its kind, and the theory of evolution remains a theory.
A diversion here from our Genesis verses, before we see mankind being created. Because whoever is speaking here was obviously alive long before man was created! Even before any of the animals or sea creatures, and before even the earth was formed. Think for a moment who this could be.
If you have ever done anything and felt very satisfied with what you have done, then you get a minuscule idea of what God was feeling here. Ecclesiastes 5:19 tells us that for people to accept their lot and be happy in their work – this is a gift from God.
Our 21st century reading of this verse can make us think of dangerous animals, just because of the word: wild. But most of the times this Hebrew word is used it refers to the land, so other translations which use land animals rather than wild animals are much more accurate.
This is the first mention of God blessing something. He was obviously happy with all that He had created up to this point, because we read that He saw that it was good! God spoke aloud to His creation telling them what to do. Be fruitful and multiply!
Researchers tell us that there are about 250,000 known marine species. They estimate that they have only discovered half of them. Scientists trying to count the bird population are divided as to how to keep apparently related birds in the same category or whether to create a different group.
None of the stars are there by accident, everyone was designed to be part of a constellation. And all the constellations move together in formation around the earth. Astronomers and astronauts will tell us there are many more stars than can be seen from earth. The fourth day was busy!
There has been light and dark since the very first day. Any thought that all the light on earth comes from the sun has to be false! The sun and moon were created to govern the light. A deeper search tells us that it means to keep within the limits.
I have often heard people ask "Which came first, the seed or the plant bearing the seed?" The answer to that is right here in the first chapter of the Bible. Sadly, because our finite minds cannot comprehend the creation story, many people dismiss it as myth or folklore.
Doubt is an enemy of God. It can stop the answers to our prayers, and thwart the work of Jesus in our lives and consequently in the lives of those around us. The short letter of James has something to say about doubt, where he likens the doubters to the waves of the sea coming and going. (James 1:6)
