Followers of Jesus – Day 8
There are churches all around the areas of our homes, many of them locked, and in many countries there are crucifixes showing Jesus giving the ultimate sacrifice for us. How many of the people who pass by recognise that as the most important event in the history of the world?
John 1:45
Philip found Nathaniel and told him “We have found The One Moses wrote about in the law, and about whom the prophets also wrote – Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph”.
The Thought
We read yesterday about Andrew finding his brother and telling him about Jesus; today we see another example of the same thing. Philip found Nathaniel who was very sceptical, but Philip’s response to the scepticism is an example for us all. “Come and see” (John 1:46).
What an example that is for us today, but how many of us follow that example? We are all surrounded by non-believers who in a way seem to be “immunised” against hearing the true gospel, do we ever say to them “Come and see”?
There are churches all around the areas of our homes, many of them locked, and in many countries there are crucifixes showing Jesus giving the ultimate sacrifice (His life) for us. How many of the people who pass by recognise that as the most important event in all the world’s history?
Most people in our western society go to a church for a wedding or a funeral more than once or twice in their adult life, but how many of those hear the real gospel? How many of us have been to one of those occasions and then said to others “We have found the Messiah” (John 1:41) as Andrew did to his brother?
If we consider ourselves “followers of Jesus” than we must take Andrew and Philip as our example and bring others to follow Him too.
Action
Pray today that you can be a better example for others. Ask Jesus who you should talk to about Him and be bold to obey. Dare to invite someone else to a church meeting or just to your home, and be bold to speak of your faith.
