Followers of Jesus – Day 7

The Bible never tells us exactly where Jesus was living, but it does make us believe that wherever He was, the door was always open to others. How many churches in your area have open doors? Do you know Christians whose doors are always open to others?

John 1:36-39

When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?” They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?” “Come,” he replied “and you will see.”

The Thought

John the Baptist was not a follower of Jesus but a forerunner; one who went before, as were many of the prophets of the Old Testament, always waiting for the arrival of The Messiah who would change their world.

These two un-named disciples of John were the first to change masters. It was John that told them to go, saying “Look, the Lamb of God!” We discover two verses later that one of them was Andrew “Simon-Peter’s brother”. Andrew was the first follower of Jesus to understand that he must tell others about Him; the one he believed to be the Messiah. But Andrew didn’t tell his brother because Jesus told him to. He told his brother because he was excited about this man who was very different to anyone Andrew had ever met. Very quickly Andrew had become convinced that Jesus was The One promised all through the writings of scripture, and so Andrew became the world’s first evangelist.

The Bible never tells us exactly where Jesus was living, but it does make us believe that wherever He was, the door was always open to others.

How many churches in your area have open doors?

Do you know Christians whose “doors are always open to others”? This can have a literal meaning as encouraged in Hebrews 13:2 or a spiritual meaning in that we are always ready to chat with others and tell them about Jesus.
