Followers of Jesus – Day 23

Acts 5:16

Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed.

The Thought

This verse summarises the life of the early apostles. The previous verse tells us that invalids were laid in the streets so that Peter’s shadow could pass by them! Peter was so full of the Holy Spirit that it spilled over onto others. He was not the man he used to be. Living in close company with Jesus had changed Peter from the inside out.

As followers of Jesus we all should be in the process of being changed from glory to glory. In Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians, we read : And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate The Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from The Lord, who is The Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:18).

The first part of that verse is interesting. What does it mean to contemplate the Lord with an unveiled face? I think it means coming before Him in honesty, trying to cover nothing of who we are, and what we have done: No pretence. That’s how Jesus, the perfect person came before His Father.

On the mount of transfiguration Peter, James and John were privileged to see something of the glory that Jesus carried, and also to see Moses and Elijah (Matthew 17:1-3). What a life changing experience that must have been.

Those 3 disciples didn’t know that Jesus was equipping them for their future. A future which was totally different to their past, a future which they could never have imagined.

He does that with us too if we allow Him to change us as He wants to.

Romans 8 also has much to say about the children of God and the glory we should be carrying.
