The Soul and the Spirit – Day 9

Psalm 103:1-2

Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits, who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.

The Thought

Most of us have had days which have not gone well, and we have had to choose whether to remain in a grumpy mood or push ourselves to snap out of it. The fact is that none of us, lives totally alone in the world.

We all have people living with us in our homes or not too far away, and whether we like it or not, they have an effect on us and we can have an effect on them. A cheery cashier at the supermarket or neighbour across the fence can make a lot of difference to anyone’s day.

Thinking of today’s verse, can you imagine an argument between David’s soul and his spirit? His spirit was always so close to the Lord, but there were days when his soul didn’t want to co-operate. Here he takes the side of his spirit, and tells his soul to join him in praise. All my inmost being is what we in the western world often refer to as the inner man, not always understanding that there are two parts to this inner man. David’s aim here is to make his soul line up with his spirit, and he is reminding the soul of what the Lord has done. Have you talked to your soul recently?

Action

Read Psalm 103 and praise God for the intricate creation of a human being.

Praise God for your spirit which was dead and then renewed when you gave your life to the Lord Jesus.

Pray for your renewed spirit to have dominion over your soul. Make a conscious decision to remember what the Lord has done for you in the past.

Be especially nice to someone today!
