Separation – Day 27

Matthew 19:5-6

A man will leave his father and mother, and be united with his wife, and the two will become one flesh. so they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.

The Thought

This is one of the most well known verses where “separation” is mentioned. It is a very clear word against being separated! In God’s Word, and in His world, some things were meant to be separate, and some things were not. The union of a man and a woman in a marriage planned by God was one of those “not to be separated” issues. It still is!

How sad in our day that the divorce rate is so high. How sad that in many places it is possible to get a divorce “over the counter” in a matter of hours!

The following verses in today’s chapter give us the ongoing argument from the Pharisees. They tell us too that divorce has been accepted ever since the time of Moses!

Of course, there are always exceptions, but here in the gospel, we do not see a list of exceptions.

If you are divorced today, do not feel condemned. Our God is merciful, and full of compassion. Remember that divorce is not an unforgivable sin. Today can be a new day for you.

Action

Pray for anyone you know who is divorced. Pray for any guilt they feel to be taken away and the peace of God to take its place.

Earnestly pray for the marriages in your church, your family, and your neighbourhood, that each couple will know that marriage is for life, and if God is in the picture, all problems can be overcome.

Praise God that He is a compassionate and merciful God, and has a plan for each one of us, married, divorced or single!! (Jeremiah 29:11).
