Jude – Day 22

Jude 17-18

But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.”

The Thought

In one of my Bibles, these verses are titled “A Call to Persevere”. That in itself is a good message. We all need to be amongst those who persevere. Nowhere in the Bible does anyone make us think that Christianity is a smooth ride to Heaven. Rather, it is a constant battle, but remember that we are on the winning side, as long as we don’t give in to satan’s schemes.

Right from the beginning when Eve gave in to the serpent, on through the murder of one of her sons by the other, the sexual sins of Sodom, and rebellion after rebellion which followed, the devil has been making his presence felt on the earth.

All through the scriptures we hear of evil proposed or carried out by those who were under the influence of satan, that archangel who gave in to pride and decided that He could equal God, the creator of Heaven and earth and everything contained there-in.

It didn’t work at the beginning of time, and it never will, but we must be aware of his schemes and we must recognise what he is doing in our world today.

Paul told the Corinthians that he was not unaware of the enemy’s schemes (2 Corinthians 2:11). So must we be.

Action

Read Ezekiel 28:12-15 for a description of who satan was before he fell, then read on to verse 19 for a prophecy of what will happen to him in the future. Isaiah 14:12-17 gives us a similar picture.

Praise God that satan’s doom was prophesied so long ago. Revelation 20 tells us how this will happen.

As you go through your day today be aware of the enemy activity going on around you, selfish attitudes, cheating, speeding, greed.
