Habakkuk – Day 15

Habakkuk 2:7-8

Will not your creditors suddenly arise? Will they not wake up and make you tremble? Then you will become their prey. Because you have plundered many nations, the peoples who are left will plunder you. For you have shed human blood; you have destroyed lands and cities and everyone in them.

The Thought

A promise of “pay back time” from God who had seen all that the enemy of His people was doing. He had missed nothing of what had been going on. He is still the same.

In these verses, The Lord is addressing the Babylonians. But His words could be speaking to many situations in our world today, whether we think of wars between countries or something much smaller such as some of the cases in our local courts, some of the family disputes, or inheritance claims or personal vendettas that go on in many areas of the world.

God promised that there would be wars and rumours of wars (Matthew 24:6) and many other problems, disasters and difficulties before His return to earth. We are living through those things today, just as the world has done since Jesus left His followers to fill the earth with knowledge of Him. That chapter continues with a description of other evils that will happen before the end of the world as we know it. But before it finishes there is a promise that those who resist all these wiles of the enemy will be saved (Matthew 24:14).

Action

Read Matthew 24 today. Feel Jesus’ passion for the hurting believers who will give up on Him because of end time world influences. Hear His heart for young unbelieving mothers, whose babies will be snatched up to Heaven on that day. It is a long chapter which reads like the description of an epic modern film.

Pray that when those things happen you will be one who sticks close to The Lord and is found in the right place doing the right thing.
