Wisdom (Proverbs 8) – Day 4
Proverbs 8:4-5
To you, O people, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind. You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, set your hearts on it.
The Thought
Wisdom personified is speaking to the whole world. Little did Solomon imagine the truth of what he was saying at that time, but today the whole world can hear what is being said in Bible truths if they take time to read or listen.
How sad that too few people do that and get to understand the Truth of God’s word and find that Jesus really is The Son of Almighty God. One day every eye will see Him (Revelation 1:7), and that will be a sad day for many who have thought they were wise!
The people described as simple in these verses today, are not those with a mental handicap. A more thorough translation would be those who are inexperienced or misled. That can be the case for all of us at some time in our lives. We have all been tempted to follow the crowd rather than ask God exactly what He wants us to do in any given situation.
The writer’s solution to our lack of understanding is to set our hearts on gaining wisdom. Not intellectual wisdom but the wisdom that comes only from knowing God.
The world is full of powers and sources that do not encourage us to spend time reading our Bibles or listening to Holy Spirit. Many of us have friends and family who are not yet Christians because of those voices.
Action
Pray today for those you know who have until now, resisted Jesus’s call to Follow Me (Matthew 4:19)!
Read Matthew 4, the account of Jesus calling some of His first disciples and listen for His call on your life today.
