Wisdom (Proverbs 8) – Day 24

Proverbs 8:33-34

Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not disregard it. Blessed are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway.

The Thought

Wisdom is continually encouraging us to listen and obey. Father God does that too all the way from the book of Genesis to the end of Revelation. He told Adam and Eve that of all the delicious fruits in the garden, there was just one they must not eat. It would have been wise for them to not disobey (Genesis 2:16-17)! All of mankind has suffered since that fateful day!

In the last chapter of our Bibles, we have the good advice to Worship God (Revelation 22:9)! That too would be a wise thing to do. Last month we looked a lot at worshipping false gods and making idols for ourselves!

One thing that seems important to me in these verses today is the encouragement to seek Wisdom every day! How many of us make our own personal plans for each day, without really asking God what He wants us to do, outside the things we are obliged to do?

Our daily job, parenting, caring for ageing relatives… These things are unchanging, but outside our obligations, what do we do with our time?

Action

Think today about how you would spend your time if you had more of it!

Think about those who have given you good advice in the past. Did you obey, or were you rebellious. Do you have regrets? The Lord Jesus has already forgiven you, ask someone to pray for you to forgive yourself and move on in your faith.

Read either the first few chapters of Genesis and/or the last few chapters of Revelation, and ask Jesus, the Glorious King, to speak to you through those verses.
