Wisdom (Proverbs 8) – Day 19

Proverbs 8:23-24

I was formed long ages ago, at the very beginning, when the world came to be. When there were no watery depths, I was given birth, when there were no springs overflowing with water.

The Thought

We actually know very little about the true beginning of the world. The Bible tells us the original story in Genesis 1, but that is not detailed enough to be appreciated by non-believing scientists today. They would have us think that the world developed over millions of years. But in today’s verse, Lady Wisdom, who by definition speaks the truth, suggests that she was a part of God even before history began.

Paul ends his letter to the Roman church with a dedication which takes three full verses, but ends with:- …to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ, Amen (Romans 16:27). If God is a wise god (and He is!), then wisdom must be a part of His personality. Following this theme logically, mankind created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27), must have a certain amount of wisdom too!

Many of us look at some of the decisions made by world leaders today and wonder what happened to wisdom! The answer is that it still exists, and can be found in Jesus, the Son of Father God, the creator of the world, who made man in His image!

Action

Pray for God to reveal Himself to the leaders of our world today, and ask Him to give them open eyes to recognise the truth.

Read Genesis 1 again and rejoice at the imagery in that newly created perfect world. Remind yourself that Wisdom was one of the qualities God gave to men and women in order that they manage the earth well.
