Wisdom (Proverbs 8) – Day 16
Proverbs 8:19
My fruit is better than fine gold; what I yield surpasses choice silver.
The Thought
Wisdom personified continues by telling us once more to seek to be wise rather than to be rich. We can imagine a salesman in a market place selling his wares and shouting out the virtues of his products to all who pass by. That is how wisdom is portrayed throughout much of this chapter.
We all need wisdom in our daily lives. When Jesus sent out His first disciples, he told them they must be wise. I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be wise as snakes and as gentle as doves (Matthew 10:16).
Later on Jesus sent out 70 missionaries (Luke 10:1), and they came back rejoicing and telling their master that even the demons are subject to us in Your name (Luke 10:17)!
Those disciples must have felt nervous as they set off on their first mission trip, but when they saw that what Jesus did worked for them, they were overjoyed!
Jesus still sends out His people today. That is you and me, and we must be ready at all times to pray for others and cast out the demons when necessary. The Name of Jesus is still as powerful today as it was then.
Action
Think about the image of the market place today. How do you react to salesmen who continually call out that their products are the best, trying to catch the eye of any prospective buyers?
Read Luke 10 and imagine the nerves of those first disciples being sent out in twos on their first missionary journey. They knew they had the best ever message to give, and were excited but also nervous. Later, they all returned to Jesus thrilled about their achievements.
Dare to be bold and offer to pray with someone today.
The name of Jesus is still powerful.
