Wisdom (Proverbs 8) – Day 13

Proverbs 8:16

By Me princes govern, and nobles—all who rule on earth.

The Thought

God chooses our leaders, whether they know it or not. But some of us have great difficulty believing that God has chosen some of the ones we hear and see on our media screens in 2024! His plans are so different to ours!

The Bible has much to say about God’s plans for the earth and His people. The Lord encouraged Jeremiah about Israel:- I know the plans I have for you, plans to give you a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).

We can also find encouragement in the psalms. For example:- The Lord foils the plans of the nations, He thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the Lord stand forever, the purposes of His heart through all generations (Psalm 33:10-11).

Other versions of today’s Bible verse suggest different translations for all who rule on the earth such as all righteous leaders, or all who judge and govern rightly. Maybe those translations seem more logical, but maybe the unrighteous ones need more prayer!

How important it is that the church prays for all leaders, those who have their own agendas, and those who are inspired by God for every decision they make. We must pray for all our politicians, but in those countries which have royalty, we must also pray for their royal families who carry a lot of responsibility, and do amazing good works which do not always get reported in the news media.

Paul encouraged his young pastor friend, Timothy, telling him that it is good to pray for kings, and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness (1 Timothy 2:2).

That is the desire of most of us: to live peaceful and quiet lives!

Action

Read one of the references above today, and pray for those in high authority around the world.
