Who is God – Day 28

Revelation 19:11

I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse whose rider is called Faithful and True.

The Thought

In John’s visions of the end times when there will eventually be peace and the devil will be destroyed once and for all, we have this name for Jesus: Faithful and True. Much earlier in this book, when John was writing the revelation given to him directly by Jesus we read of Jesus being called the faithful witness (Revelation 1:1).

What a great name that is. Jesus witnessed everything about life on earth, and through every one of His trials, difficulties, disappointments and pain, He remained faithful to His Father. And to the mission He was sent to earth to accomplish.

The first mention of faithfulness to God in our Bibles is in Genesis 5:22 where we read about Enoch the father of Methuselah. Both father and son lived a very long time, as did most people in those times before sin had a powerful effect on the earth, and God decided to limit the life of man to 120 years (Genesis 6:3). These faithful old men were followed by many more faithful heroes who we can read about all the way through the Bible.

Jesus (Faithful and True) can help each of us to remain faithful in the place God has put us. The best list of faithful heroes is found in Hebrews 11 where we read brief epitaphs of many who served God faithfully.

Action

Read Hebrews 11 today. Be encouraged to stay faithful to the ones Jesus has put you with, either in family or job situations. Pray for any problems you have with those people. Ask Jesus to help you stay faithful in the difficult times.

If all is going well for you then praise God for that and pray for those you know who are not so blessed.
