Who is God – Day 22

Daniel 4:2

It is my pleasure to tell you about the miraculous signs and wonders that the most high God has performed for me.

The Thought

The expression the Most High God (El Elyon) appears 27 times in the Bible. 4 times in the short book of Daniel. The situation was that King Nebuchadnezzar was bothered by a strange dream. None of his ministers were able to interpret the dream for him. Maybe it was that they didn’t want to interpret the dream, because they could see that it was not a good omen for the king! But Daniel leapt at the chance to speak of the power of his God. He interpreted the dream and the following chapters tell us what happened. It was all very strange and hardly believable, but the details were clear.

Living in a time and place when many tribes and nations openly served their own personal god, Daniel was always faithful to The Most High God. The Bible is consistent in letting us know that the God who created the world, and spoke things into being, is this El Elyon, The Most High God.

The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ, the only Son of The Most High God, has a name which is exalted above every name, (Philippians 2:9). Let us praise His name today.

Action

Read Daniel 4 today. Try to understand the strange things that happened to King Nebuchadnezzar. Note Daniel’s total conviction that his God was the the greatest and had something to say in this situation.

His testimony resulted in the king’s eventual admission that Daniel’s god was the greatest.

Much of our world today seems to be taken over by an enemy of God’s people. It is up to us to keep speaking the truth, even when it is not easy.
