Who is God – Day 14

Leviticus 20:8

Keep My decrees and follow them. I am the Lord who makes you Holy.

The Thought

The name used for God in this verse is Yahweh-Maccaddeshem. It is also used as one of the names God gives to Himself when He was talking to Moses about having a holy nation (Exodus 31:13).

The same word is used much later in Israel’s chequered history when God showed Ezekiel the valley of dry bones, then continued with the picture of 2 sticks representing Israel and Judah. The chapter finishes with the nations will know that I the Lord make Israel Holy (Ezekiel 37:28).

God has always been intent on having a Holy nation for Himself as a witness to the rest of the world. We see the continuation of that intention in the life of Jesus. Often when He was healing someone He said your sins are forgiven (Matthew 9:2, Mark 2:5, Luke 5:20, Luke 7:48). In that statement God was making people Holy.

God never changes His mind. He still wants His people to be holy, to be “separated from the world” in a spiritual sense. Unfortunately in many places across the earth “the world” has entered and influenced the church.

Action

Pray today for God to forgive anything that you might have done that would render you unholy.

Read Ezekiel 37 and praise God because He can make dry bones live and render even the worst sinner holy. Remember Ephesians 5:25-27:- Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word and to present her to Himself as a radiant church, without spot or wrinkle or any other blemish.

Ask Him to purify the church so that each member does what He called us to do, and becomes what He designed us to be.
