The Soul and the Spirit – Day 7

Job 32:8

But it is the spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding.

The Thought

All our studies, diplomas and qualifications count for nothing in the eyes of the Lord. What matters is a spirit which is alive and in touch with His Spirit, and then He will teach us everything we need to know, and give us everything we need. His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3).

A common problem today is that too often people do not know how to listen to their own spirit. Too many of us do not understand that all understanding worth having, comes from the Holy Spirit. He is ready to share that with us whenever we are ready to listen.

This verse is a pearl of wisdom from the youngest of Job’s “comforters”! He had sat for many hours and days listening to the advice that Job’s other friends were giving, and it seems that he had been getting more and more angry with them, desperate to interrupt their arguments, and ready to put forward God’s point of view as he saw it! Eventually he burst forth saying Inside I am like bottled up wine, like new wineskins ready to burst. I must speak and find relief (Job 32:19-20).

Action

Read Job 32 and imagine the heated discussion, and the frustrations of Elihu as he listened to the others.

Praise God for the teachers, parents, colleagues and friends who have helped you to understand things you need to know for your daily life. Praise God that His understanding is so much higher than anything they have taught you.

Pray for insight into God’s perspective. Ask for forgiveness for things you have believed that are contrary to His word. Ask Him to teach your spirit.
