The Soul and the Spirit – Day 29

Romans 8:15

For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”

The Thought

Once we understand that each one of us who believe in Jesus is a son of God, then there is no room for fear of anything. A child who lives in a secure healthy family worries about nothing, because daddy is always there to fix things.

If God is who He says He is, and we trust Him in the way that any child would trust their own earthly family (assuming it is a healthy family with 2 parents present), then fear can have no place in our lives.

Those of us who are parents want our children to be afraid of nothing. We teach them to trust Jesus from a very young age, as recommended by the wise writer of Proverbs. Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it (Proverbs 22:6).

Notice the word slave in the verse today. Demonic forces are not gentle and kind, they act to make us slaves to them, often by fear. We must take authority over that in the powerful name of Jesus.

Speaking to any fear you have, banish them from your life today in the powerful name of Jesus of Nazareth. It’s OK to get angry with the enemy, and fear is not a friend that we need!

Action

Do you have the sort of relationship spoken about today with your Father God?

If not, then ask a Christian you trust to pray for you to know God as “papa”.

Pray for the Lord to show you if you are a slave to anything or anyone other than Him.

Praise Him that His perfect love casts out all fear (1 John 4:18).
