The Soul and the Spirit – Day 27

Romans 8:13

For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,…

The Thought

For the last few days in this month, we return to Romans chapter 8 which has much to say about the difference between soul and spirit. Today we have another very clear statement from St. Paul talking about spiritual life and spiritual death.

It is so sad that so many people in the world around us have no idea that they are spiritually dead. Many people think that there is no spiritual world at all, they believe the world is what we see, and nothing else. How sad that is!

In John 10, Jesus speaks of being the good shepherd (John 10:11) and also the gate to safety (John 10:9) going on to say that He came to earth so that we may have life in abundance (John 10:10). What does that mean to you?

The beginning of that verse (John 10:10), says that the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy, and it is that enemy force that has been trying to run our lives through our souls ever since the garden of Eden.

The wrong choice Adam and Eve made which resulted in them being banished from the garden was a choice made according to the soul, and the result of that choice was that their spirits died.

Action

Praise God for His offer of life through Jesus. Pray for an increase in your own spiritual life and that of your church today.

Read John 10 and think about life in abundance that Jesus refers to there.

Ask yourself what it means to really live, in the way Paul is referring to in this verse and Jesus referred to in John 10.

Pray for the return of anything the enemy has stolen or destroyed; your health, your wealth, your family…
