The Soul and the Spirit – Day 26

Romans 8:9-10

You, however are not in the realm of the flesh, but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you, and if anyone does not have the spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.

The Thought

Saint Paul makes things very clear in these verses, which continue the thoughts we looked at earlier in this study (days 15-18). When Paul talks about the flesh, he is meaning the things we do that originate in the soul. He means the earthly things, the things that make us feel good for a while, but that have no long lasting effect, either for us personally or for the small part of the world around us.

If Christ is in us, then our spirit should be affecting every thing we do and every decision we make.

Please note that nowhere in this chapter of Romans does it say, if you attend church regularly or if you read your Bible and pray every day. These things can be religious activities which make our soul feel good, but do nothing for our spiritual life.

Jesus did not die and come back to life so that we could have religious meetings, or so that we could be self righteous believers. He did what He did so that He could live through us, and we could do what He did, and change our world (John 14:12).

Action

Pray for the Spirit of Christ to be more living and active in your church so that each one of the members will regularly do righteous acts like Jesus did.

Read John 14 today for more of the important information that Jesus gave to His followers.

Praise God for the righteousness made available to us through Jesus. Praise Him that you can do greater things than Jesus through His Spirit living in you.
