The Soul and the Spirit – Day 21

2 Timothy 1:7

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

The Thought

One of the things we have to like about Paul is that he told us things straight, and his words are still true for us today. If we are afraid, then that fear is a sign that our lives are not yet totally in tune with the Spirit of God.

People who are blessed to have dramatic conversions leave the devil’s camp and are transported to the camp of Jesus in one moment, and from that moment on they know things are different. They have been set free from the life of sin and death.

Many of us are not blessed with such experiences and have to grow at a much slower pace until we are totally convinced that God’s Spirit is in us and ready to rule our lives if we allow Him too.

The spirit which is alive to God is endued with His power, is full of His love, and is able to discipline the soul and body to come in line with God’s word.

Action

Read 2 Timothy 1 today and think about your own fears. Maybe “fear” is too strong a word here, but most of us are concerned about some future event or possibility.

Do you fear old age, loneliness, sickness, poverty? Are you afraid of flying, heights, dogs or bee stings? Are you afraid for someone else, and what might happen to them later in life; your children, your parents?

Speak to the God of love today, and be honest with Him about your fears and worries.

Ask Jesus to show you things you are afraid of, and ask Him to heal the origins of those fears. Praise Him that He is a refuge for all who seek Him.
