The Soul and the Spirit – Day 2

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

The Thought

We are looking at this verse for a second day because there is so much in it. The word of God is the measuring line for our thoughts and attitudes. God wants us to be a holy people because He is a holy God. The only Holy God!

The only way we can do that is having our thoughts and attitudes changed to be in line with His thinking. Are you willing to let the word of God be your judge today? It will show you which thoughts are from your spirit, and consequently acceptable to the Lord, and which thoughts originate in your soul and are not from Him. These differences are difficult to discern (like separating joints and marrow), but God’s word can do it, and we can learn to do it too. Many of us have had occasions when we had a problem which didn’t seem to have a solution, we have gone over and over it in our mind, before we eventually decided that it might be a good idea to pray. When we do that, we are asking God to direct our thought process, and very often that changes things, and suddenly the problem doesn’t seem so much of a problem as before.

Action

Pray for discernment in everything you do, to know what is from your spirit and in line with God’s word, and what is not.

Praise God that He is an expert teacher and will show you what you need to understand. Praise Him for His patience with you as you learn your lessons slowly.

Read Hebrews 4 again today and allow The Lord to highlight a different verse.
