The Soul and the Spirit – Day 15
Romans 8:2-4
Through Christ Jesus, the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. … we do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.
The Thought
Many of us can identify with Paul’s testimony which speaks about him having been subjected to a law of sin and death. Our prayer should be that each of the unbelievers we know would have a revelation of that same thing!
Paul insists, in this chapter of Romans, on the different life we can have when we break our ties to the world, and live in line with the Holy Spirit. We need to understand the law of sin and death which has been in operation since the time of Adam!
Adam and Eve didn’t recognize the freedom they had until they didn’t have it any more.
That is true for many of us today, in all sorts of ways: We don’t realise how much we trust or depend on somebody until they move away. When someone who has been close to us dies, we find that we miss them more than we expected to, and we recognize how much we depended on them for love, friendship, and advice.
We all need to have an understanding of the effect that our daily and weekly activities have on our lives, in order to really appreciate and deeply desire the life of freedom that Jesus gave us through his death and resurrection.
Action
Praise God for the law of the Spirit of life working in you. Ask Him to show you a new revelation of that today.
Read Genesis 2-3 and reflect on all that Adam and Eve lost through their disobedience.
Pray for those you know who are still trapped in the law of sin and death.
