The Soul and the Spirit – Day 13
2 Corinthians 7:1
Dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.
The Thought
The desires of the soul can be strong and if not kept in line with the spirit they will overtake and contaminate it. Holiness grows in each one of us as we keep the soul in check and let Holy Spirit direct our paths. That is if you have given your life to Jesus and are consequently submitted to Heavenly rule.
We must regularly ask the Lord to show us if any fruits of the sinful nature, are creeping back into our lives (see Day 8, or Galatians 5). We must pray for His kingdom to come, and His will to be done, first in our own lives, and then in our family, our church and our community.
What does a holy life look like? It is not a person who carries their Bible everywhere, or someone who wears a cross. (Although these things are not bad, and can be good.) It is not someone who goes to church everyday or even every week! That too is not a bad thing, but a Christian lives for Jesus 24/7 and it shows! It is being available to pray for others, right then and there if necessary!
Those people are ready to bring peace to every difficult situation. Most Christians know their Bibles well enough to tell others what God thinks in whatever situation they are asked about. The majority of spirit filled believers have a glow coming from their spirit which is obvious to others.
Action
Read 2 Corinthians 7:1 then turn to the previous chapter where it gives warnings about idolatry (2 Corinthians 6:14-18).
Pray for the Lord to show you any contamination He wants to deal with in your life or that of your church. Pray that your church becomes more and more a holy group of people demonstrating God’s love to those outside.
Praise God for His transforming grace.
