The Last – Day 21

Acts 2:17

In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.

The Thought

Many of us are longing for evidence of these things in and around us today. Many parents and grandparents who have prayed for years for wayward or rebellious young ones are feeling discouraged, and wondering if their offspring will ever change. This verse is an encouragement for them as well as others who have led church youth groups or taught Sunday school classes. The Spirit of God is increasing His work on the earth, and many rebellious people will suddenly change and have their eyes open to the truth. That Truth is Jesus.

Today’s verse is the beginning of Peter’s long speech on the first pentecost. The part of the speech which we read here goes on until verse 40, but that verse tells us With many other words he warned them and pleaded with them… Peter’s passion was aroused, and Holy Spirit had freed his tongue, so he spoke to the crowd with a compulsion he had not previously demonstrated. Holy Spirit still has a way of doing the same thing to people today.

Many Christians will say that they were not confident to speak to others until Holy Spirit touched them. God is moving across the earth in our day, and we can be encouraged that things are not as bad as the secular news media would have us believe.

Action

Read Peter’s speech in Acts 2 today, and be encouraged that as Jesus changed his life from the brusque fisherman, to the travelling evangelist and writer of two books in the Bible bearing his name, so He can change those around you for whom you have been praying for a long time.
