The Last – Day 19
John 6:54
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.
The Thought
Yesterday we mentioned the first occasion of a priest giving bread and wine to a servant of God, Abraham. That victorious obedient warrior and leader of God’s people had no idea that what he was experiencing in receiving bread and wine from Melchizedek was a very significant event which would continue through the generations until the last days of life on earth. Today we read of Jesus Himself promising that those who take communion will see that last day!
The bread and wine has been one of the factors that has created divisions in the church of Jesus! Some churches say that anyone can take it, while others will only allow people who have been baptised or confirmed. Still others say that it cannot be given to young children.
I am sure Jesus smiles from Heaven over these man-made regulations, and other similar things that divide us. In this gospel John recalls that Jesus prayed twice that His followers would be united in the same way that He is with His Father: …that they may be one as We are One (John 17:11 & 22).
Action
Praise God today that in many parts of the world people of different denominations are beginning to work together for The Lord. Read John 17, and pray for those places where this is not yet a reality.
Pray that the different attitudes to taking The Lord’s Supper will cease to be used by the enemy for division.
Thank God that one day we will know the truth, and the truth will set us free (John 8:32)!
Thank Jesus that you will be with Him on the “Last day”, and pray again for those you know who are not sure.
