The Last – Day 15

Isaiah 44:6

This is what the Lord says – Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.

The Thought

The book of Isaiah is long, but full of important verses that are worth remembering, and God declaring through His prophets that He is the first and the last is one of the most important themes in our Bibles. This verse makes it clear that the only God worth serving is Jehovah the God of Israel. Where does that leave all the others? The Gods of other religions?

The Lord God Jehovah who says He was there at the beginning, and was in fact the creator of the universe, decided to make mankind in His own image giving him authority over every living thing on the earth (Genesis 1:26-27).

This theme is followed all through our Bibles, and in the very last chapter we read of Jesus talking to John and saying Behold, I am coming soon, My reward is with Me and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End (Revelation 22:12-13).

Action

Read Revelation 22 today and be at peace knowing that God is in control from the beginning to the end of our world. Thank God for the Bible giving us the whole true story of earthly life as well as giving us a taste for Heaven.

Take time too to look at today’s verse in context. In some Bible translations, Isaiah 44:6-23 are subtitled The Lord, not idols.

Realise afresh the importance of praying for and witnessing to all those who have not yet met Jesus, who have unknowingly made idols of people, and other spiritual beings. They are often the people who think life will continue as it always has done.
