The Last – Day 12
Isaiah 2:2
In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and all nations will stream to it.
The Thought
Yesterday we read about Jesus talking of the last days, but He was far from the first to do that. There are many references in the Old Testament to the last days. Jewish people were totally convinced that there would be an end to time as we know it.
Here Isaiah tells us that there will be a temple built on a very high mountain, whether that is an actual mountain or a figure of speech is not clear. What is clear is that people from all over the world will visit, and that it will be a time of peace when other nations recognise that God has blessed the people of Israel and that their God is The One to teach them how to live without wars (Isaiah 2:1-5).
But then in verse 6 the tone changes, and the prophet accuses God of having abandoned His people! Is that true? Has God abandoned Israel, or has Israel abandoned The Lord?
It seems as though Isaiah is disappointed and frustrated with the people and in verse 9 he even suggests that God does not forgive them! From there to the end of the chapter Isaiah gives us an ugly picture of the last days, ending with a warning which is still not outdated!
Action
Read Isaiah 2 today and consider the times we are living through right now. Do you think we are approaching the end of time on earth?
Can you imagine a time when Israel’s enemies will retreat and have a change of heart, saying that The God of Israel is the One True God?
Pray for that today, knowing that God can change hearts and minds, and those that seek Him will find Him (Acts 17:27 & Hebrews 11:6).
