The Last – Day 11
John 12:48
There is a judge for the one who rejects Me and does not accept My words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day.
The Thought
Last day judgement is not something we like to talk about too much these days. If you mention it in many Christian circles, someone will jump in to the conversation and say that we have no idea when that will be, so there is no point in talking about it!
Others will dismiss it as being the day when Jesus returns to earth, and they will say: “People have been expecting that for two thousand years, so maybe it’s never going to happen!”
But here, in John’s gospel Jesus is assuring us that there will be a last day, and He will not be the judge, but Father God who sent Him will be the final judge. Through much of the chapter Jesus has been trying to get His listeners to focus on The Father who sent Him. In verse 44 we read about Jesus crying out: Whoever believes in Me, does not believe in Me only, but in the One who sent Me. When talking about judgement, Jesus assures us that He does not judge those who ignore what He says, because that is not His reason for coming to earth. I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world (verse 47).
Action
Read this amazing chapter (John 12) today and be blessed as you identify separately Jesus and His Father. Even though Jesus said I and the Father are one (John 10:30), they have different purposes. Jesus knew His reason for coming to earth and was extremely careful to follow what His Father asked of Him, submitting totally to Him even to His death, trusting Father God to fulfil the promised resurrection.
