Suddenly – Day 6

Psalm 6:10

All my enemies will be overwhelmed with shame and anguish; they will turn back and suddenly be put to shame.

The Thought

This short psalm of David is a real lament. Only in this closing verse does he declare something positive. Up to that point he is feeling very tired and very worried as verse 6 tells us. I am worn out from my groaning, all night long I flood my bed with weeping and my couch with tears.

Many of us have had periods like that, when we are very weary with the situation we are living through. But most of us reading this today, do not have enemies in the way it is meant in this verse. Sadly as I write this (October 2023) much of the world is experiencing a real time of stress with real enemies. We must pray for those places.

All of us have experienced opposition in some way or another. In the following verse we have the clue from David about how to react when things go wrong. Away from me all you who do evil, for the Lord has heard my weeping (Psalms 6:8).

We must learn to trust God in the way that David did. Even in the worst of situations, he learned to be positive and to declare the truth that God would see him through.

The verse for today is not a pipe dream. It is a positive statement inspired by knowing the God we are praying to.

Action

As we think today about the suddenlies we would like to see in our own lives, and in the lives of those around us, let us be positive trusting Jesus. He knows the situation better than we do.

Read Psalm 6 today and pray for those parts of the world that are war torn at the moment.
