The Spiritual Blessings – 20

Ephesians 3:6 As I read that verse, it is the words “One Body” that shout at me. Paul was talking about One Body as Jews and Gentiles, and had no idea how fragmented the Christian church would become. Division has been one of satan’s plans since the beginning of time.

This mystery is the Good News that people who are not Jewish have the same inheritance as Jewish people do. They belong to the same body and share the same promise that God made in Christ Jesus.

The Thought

As I read that verse now in preparing this study, it is the words “One Body” that shout at me. Paul was talking about One Body as Jews and Gentiles joined in faith in Jesus, and he had no idea how fragmented the Christian church would become in the future.

Today we have pentecostals, evangelicals, baptists, catholics, mennonites, and many more divisions across the world. How sad the Lord must be when He sees the petty arguments that made some of those churches break away from others.

Maybe Jesus had an idea it would happen when He prayed His long “farewell prayer”. In John 17:11 we read of Jesus praying “protect them and may they be one as We are one”.

Division has been one of satan’s plans since the beginning of time. In Genesis 3 we read of his seduction of Eve, when the serpent said to her “did God REALLY say…”. He got her to question the meaning of God’s word. Different interpretation of God’s word is one of the reasons we have so many church denominations today!

Eve broke God’s law by eating the fruit, then gave some to Adam. The result of that was division from God and dispute between the two of them as Adam blamed Eve for his sin! Will we ever learn?

Action

As you go through your day today be aware of disagreements that go on around you, maybe in your own family, your place of work, your church, but also at every level of politics, from local level to international. Be aware that real unity can only be achieved as each one of us seek God’s answer to every problem.

Seek Him today for whatever might be needed in your personal situation.
