Separation – Day 8

Numbers 25:3

So Israel yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor. And the LORD’s anger burned against them.

The Thought

It was not long before the men of Israel were seduced by foreign women, and fell into sin, not only sexual sin, but spiritual sin too. The foreign wives led them astray, when in fact the Israelite men should have known that their God was the One and only True God and they should have been the ones to lead their partners to the Truth! One sin so often leads to another! God had clearly said to the Israelites: You shall have no other gods but Me! (Exodus 20:3 & Deuteronomy 5:7).

Why did Israel disobey God? Did they not know what He had said? Could they not remember? Did they choose to forget? Did they ignore Him? Was the temptation too strong? Did they think He would forgive because He is a God of mercy?

What excuses do we offer to God today when we don’t obey Him as we should? He still wants a holy people who will just love Him. It’s not so hard as we think, Holy Spirit is there to help and the reward and blessings are well worth the effort. His blessings are without end for those who love Him (Exodus 20:6).

God calls His people to separate themselves from the ways of the world, to be different and to be witnesses in the people groups they are part of.

Action

Pray today for the strength to resist temptation. Pray for the purifying of your heart and the will to follow Him completely.

Praise Him for the eternal blessings for those who choose to obey (Deuteronomy 28).

Praise Him for His grace, mercy and patience with us as we learn to receive His blessings, and continue to learn daily as we read and meditate on His word.
