Separation – Day 26

Ezekiel 37:16-17

Son of man, take a stick of wood and write on it, “Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him.” Then take another stick of wood, and write on it, “Ephraim’s stick, belonging to Joseph and all the house of Israel associated with him.” Join them together into one stick so that they will become one in your hand.

The Thought

Today we have the opposite of separation: a joining together.

This is an interesting prophetic picture of God’s plan for unity. In His time, He will bring the divided tribes of Israel together, and in His time, He will bring the divided church together, but in the meantime, both “sticks” are in His hand. Do we forget that the other denominations are also in the Lord’s hand?

The Lord carries His church, and He will unite us in His time. We do our part by not increasing the separation. By blessing others and not cursing them. And by doing what He has called us to do, knowing that nobody this side of Heaven has the whole picture.

This particular picture of the sticks joining together, comes immediately after the image of the dry bones which is probably the most well known prophecy from Ezekiel, and is also a picture of unity (the body becoming one) and a message for today’s church.

Let’s rise up and be the body He designed us to be, separated from the world, but joined in His hand like the two sticks in today’s verse.

Action

Praise God for His hand that is big enough to hold all the denominations. Praise Him that you are in His hand today.

Pray for tolerance and understanding between the different churches in your area.

Pray for your own attitude to other Christian groups, ask the Lord to show you the good things about them.
