Samson – Day 21

Judges 16:4-5

Some time later, he fell in love with a woman in the Valley of Sorek whose name was Delilah. The rulers of the Philistines went to her and said, “See if you can lure him into showing you the secret of his great strength and how we can overpower him so we may tie him up and subdue him. Each one of us will give you eleven hundred shekels (about 13 kilograms) of silver.”

The Thought

Once more, we read of a woman involved in Samson’s story. He fell in love with her, but she loved money more than she loved him, and that’s where the enemy succeeded. Bribes and financial gain have been responsible for many deaths all over the world, sometimes the spiritual deaths of Christians too. Sadly the same demonic plan is still seeing success today.

The Philistine people were desperate to be rid of Samson, because nothing they had tried so far had worked. Nothing scared him, nothing upset him, nothing stopped him once he had decided what to do in the face of a problem. The only way they could break out of their situation was to find the secret of his superhuman strength, so they bribed his girlfriend!

The bribe worked, but we’ll read about that tomorrow.

Action

Read Matthew 19:16-29 today where we find what Jesus said about finance, telling his followers to give to the poor.

Pray for anyone you know who has a problem with money, maybe they have too much, or maybe not enough. Poverty and riches can both be serious problems, often keeping people from the church and from a real understanding of what is Christianity.

Think today about your own attitude to money. Is The Lord asking you to be more generous in this new year just begun?

Pray for peace, and God’s guidance in your spending. Pray for extra so that you can give generously.
