Renewing the Mind – Day 10

Hebrews 5:12-13

… you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness.

The Thought

The Lord created the caterpillar to grow up into a butterfly. He creates each one of us to grow and change both spiritually and physically. The choice to stay an infant in the faith is ours.

Some of us may recognize that we are not growing very fast. As we wonder why, we are tempted to blame the priest or pastor who is not very inspiring. We might blame the church customs, “always the same”, or even the fact that church is a long way away and always on Sunday morning (market day in many parts of the world).

The verse above tells us that the way to change is to “become acquainted with the teachings” of the Word of God. That’s our personal responsibility, not that of the priest or pastor. Going back to the caterpillar analogy, we can live very comfortable lives on the same plant, crawling along the same stalk and eating the same leaves. But the Lord has so much more for us, if only we will retreat into a cocoon with Him and allow Him to melt us and change us.

Action

Ask yourself today if you are happy to stay as you are, or if the desire to grow in your faith is real.

Pray today for encouragement from the Lord. Ask Him to show you what to read in a part of the Bible you are not so familiar with.

Pray for the Lord to guide you to some good Christian messages on the internet.

Praise Him again for His word which is so full of good nourishing food.
