Remembering – Day 25

1 Corinthians 1:16

Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else. For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel.

The Thought

Paul is addressing the believers in the Corinthian church, about the subject of unity and leaders who set an example. He has heard that there are divisions beginning as some people express their preferences about leaders. Paul is adamant that The Only One to follow is Jesus Christ, who was the only person crucified in order to open the door for His followers to be in Heaven with Him. Church leaders are simply His servants.

In stating in this verse that he doesn’t remember who he baptised, Paul is saying, that whoever went in the water with the new convert is not important. It’s the new birth, and accepting Christ as personal Saviour that counts!

The same message is good for many today. Who baptised you, whether as a baby or an adult is of little importance, what matters is your life with Jesus today. It doesn’t matter which person prays for you, whether it is a well known world leader in Christian circles, or a friend, neighbour, parent or pastor in a house church of just a dozen people. The heart of the candidate giving their life to Jesus is the most important thing. Jesus sees it, and He knows.

Action

Pray today for the Christians you mix with to be of one mind, and at one with Holy Spirit. Ask Him to help all of you to remember the important things.

Read 1 Corinthians 16 and ask Holy Spirit to highlight for you any verses you need to take special note of. Thank Him that He is ever present and ready to point out what you need to remember today.
