Psalms 146-150 – Day 26

Psalm 149:4-6

For the Lord takes delight in His people; He crowns the humble with victory.
Let His faithful people rejoice in this honour and sing for joy on their beds.
May the praise of God be in their mouths and a double-edged sword in their hands.

The Thought

Doesn’t the fist part of these verses make you smile and raise your spirit? Aren’t you pleased that the Lord Almighty, God of Heaven and earth, delights in you, no matter what problems you have, how well you know Him or serve Him. He just delights in you because you are a person that He created with a purpose.

That purpose is to sing His praises! That should be so easy to do. How sad that too many of us get too busy to even give Him a second thought during our day. Maybe to sing for joy on our beds would be a good way to start each new day!

At the end of our Bible, the victorious Prince on His white horse is described as having a double-edged sword in his hand (Revelation 1:16 & 2:12). In both cases the sword is described as sharp!! That means it was not for decoration, it was to be used against His enemies. He will be victorious. Hallelujah!

The verses of today’s psalm tell us that we too should be carrying a double-edged sword! There is a war against satan going on around all of us, and it is time now for the church to rise and fight the enemy activity in our families, our governments, our areas and our churches.

Action

Try singing for joy from your bed tomorrow morning, before you get up! It could change your day!

Read one or both of the chapters in Revelation, and ask God to help you recognise the war going on around you today. Pray for peace wherever you are.
