Psalm 119 – Day 30

ש Sin and Shin

Psalm 119:161-168

Rulers persecute me without cause, but my heart trembles at Your word. I rejoice in your promise like one who finds great spoil. I hate and detest falsehood but I love Your law. Seven times a day I praise you for righteous laws. Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing can make them stumble. I wait for your salvation, Lord, and I follow Your commands. I obey your statutes, for I love them greatly. I obey your precepts and Your statutes, for all my ways are known to You.

The Thought

The first line today tells us that David was more concerned about not disobeying The Lord than he was about having disagreements with earthly rulers! Many Christians felt the same way during the Covid crisis, refusing to wear masks, and showing that they were not afraid of the disease. They did that because, like David, they rejoice in God’s promises of healing and protection.

Christians who live each day knowing that they can have that inner peace that comes only from having Jesus and Holy Spirit in our lives, fear nothing. Verse 165 above confirms that David felt the same. Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing can make them stumble.

Peace in our personal lives is one of the most important needs in this crazy world. As we pray for peace for ourselves, we must also remember that so much of the world is in conflict, and in many countries Christians are being persecuted for their faith.

Action

Read John 14 today and remember that Jesus said My peace I give to you… Do not let your heart be troubled and do not be afraid (John 14:27).

Pray for inner peace for those people being persecuted for their faith, whether nearby or on the other side of the world.
