Psalm 119 – Day 27
צ Tsadhe
Psalm 119:137-144
You are righteous, Lord, and Your laws are right. The statutes you have laid down are righteous; they are fully trustworthy. My zeal wears me out, for my enemies ignore Your words. Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and Your servant loves them. Though I am lowly and despised, I do not forget Your precepts. Your righteousness is everlasting and Your law is true. Trouble and distress have come upon me, but Your commands give me delight. Your statutes are always righteous; give me understanding that I may live.
The Thought
We can feel David’s plea from the heart here. He was weary of being in the position he found himself in with enemies all around. Often the enemy activity was within his own household. 2 Samuel 13-16 tells us the sad story of conflict and bad behaviour between some of David’s children.
Ammon, David’s son was infatuated by Tamar his half sister, who was the full sister of Ammon’s half brother Absalom. It was a complicated story, but Ammon succeeded in raping Tamar and Absalom was furious. Eventually murdering his brother Ammon, and never forgiving his father the king for his lack of reaction in that situation.
Action
Read the four chapters of 2 Samuel 13-16 today and note all the different emotions there, love, hatred, frustration, anger, jealousy….
The Bible is not full of stories of perfect people, but real life situations very similar to today in most parts of the world.
Many of us think of David as the perfect king who loved The Lord! That is not true! David was an adulterer, a murderer, and an inadequate father. He will be in heaven, not because he did nothing wrong, but because he loved the Lord who is loving and forgiving!
