Psalm 119 – Day 26

פ Pe

Psalm 119:129-136

Your statutes are wonderful; therefore I obey them. The unfolding of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. I open my mouth and pant, longing for Your commands. Turn to me and have mercy on me, as you always do to those who love Your name. Direct my footsteps according to Your word; let no sin rule over me. Redeem me from human oppression, that I may obey Your precepts. Make Your face shine on Your servant and teach me Your decrees. Streams of tears flow from my eyes, for Your law is not obeyed.

The Thought

The last line of these verses shows the compassion that David had for those who were not obedient to the word of God. Was he sad for The Lord, because people did not follow Him, or was he sad for those who did not obey for whatever reason?

Possibly both! But it wasn’t just a sadness he was feeling, it was a real deep emotion. He wanted everyone to make good choices! His personal deep desire was to follow the Lord’s leading 24/7, and not stray from God’s plan for his time as leader of Israel. He wanted the same for everyone else!

Another line that is important is the second one above. The unfolding of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.

Verse 134 above is a prayer for David to be redeemed from human oppression. That prayer could be repeated by thousands of people across the nations today. Many believers live in countries where their faith must remain secret, but even in “Christian” parts of the world there are many, particularly women, who are not permitted by their husbands to attend church meetings other than Sunday morning.

Action

Pray for those people today.

Ask yourself today what the The unfolding of God’s word means for you. Of course we understand more if we meditate and spend time making the effort to look at cross references, and deeper word meanings.
