Psalm 119 – Day 21

ל Lamedh

Psalm 119:89-96

Your word,Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. Your faithfulness continues through all generations; You established the earth, and it endures. Your laws endure to this day, for all things serve you. If Your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. I will never forget Your precepts, for by them You have preserved my life. Save me, for I am Yours; I have sought out your precepts. The wicked are waiting to destroy me, but I will ponder Your statutes. To all perfection I see a limit, but Your commands are boundless.

The Thought

We notice a distinct change of focus in the verses today. After the previous part, which is full of weariness and frustration in waiting for God to answer, David decided to think positively about what God can do, had already done, and His faithfulness in the past.

That is a good lesson for us. When we are being worn down by what seem to be mountainous difficulties, the thing to do is focus on good things which God has done for us in the past, and rejoice.

Note the line in the middle of this strophe:- If Your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. Many of us can say that with grateful hearts.

In verse 95 above we read The wicked are waiting to destroy me, but I will ponder your statutes. The only way to get through some difficulties is by changing focus and praising God for His goodness.

Action

Think about the areas of the world that are suffering from war, famine, pestilence or other things today and add your prayers to countless others who are asking God for His solution, and miraculous intervention.

Read other psalms that are an encouragement to you, and pray through them, applying them to any difficult situations nearer home.
