Psalm 119 – Day 20

כ Kaph

Psalm 119:81-88

My soul faints with longing for your salvation, but I have put my hope in Your word. My eyes fail, looking for your promise; I say, “When will you comfort me?” Though I am like a wineskin in the smoke, I do not forget Your decrees. How long must Your servant wait? When will You punish my persecutors? The arrogant dig pits to trap me, contrary to Your law. All Your commands are trustworthy; help me, for I am being persecuted without cause. They almost wiped me from the earth, but I have not forsaken Your precepts. In Your unfailing love preserve my life, that I may obey the statutes of Your mouth.

The Thought

It sounds as though the psalmist was getting depressed as he wrote this part of the psalm!

David was looking for, and praying for help in whatever situation he was suffering from or struggling with at the time, and as it is with all of us. He was getting impatient, beginning to panic and yet trying to trust the Lord for the solution of divine intervention.

Most of us have been in that situation at some time in our lives! And this was not the first time for our psalmist. In Psalm 13, we read the question How long…? four times in the first 2 verses!

Action

Read Psalm 13 today, and ask God to deal with any difficulties you are facing right now.

Pray for the world situation. As I write this in late September 2024, many are praying for the year long war between Israel and Hamas to end. It has gone on too long. We can imagine that many devout Jews are reading Psalm 13.

Think about situations much nearer home where there are unjust things happening. We all know about abuse in families, offices, schools. Many people around us are being abused, or persecuted, and they need our prayers.
