Psalm 119 – Day 11
ז Zayin
Psalm 119:49-52
Remember your word to your servant, for You have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life. The arrogant mock me unmercifully, but I do not turn from Your law. I remember, Lord, Your ancient laws, and I find comfort in them.
The Thought
It is not known at what stage of his life David wrote this psalm, but he had several life experiences that were difficult. His life seemed to be a series of highs and lows, ups and downs. His reaction during the difficult times was always to turn to The Lord.
He was rejected and abandoned by his own family from an early age, not invited to the feast when the famous and respected prophet came to dine (1 Samuel 16:11)!
Left to live in the fields with the sheep most of his early days by his father, rejected and mocked by his brothers when he took food to them on the battle ground (1 Samuel 17:28).
Thought to be inadequate by king Saul (1 Samuel 17:33)!
All that was good training for his later life as king, when he had many different sorts of battles to fight.
Action
Can you look back on your own life or that of others you know well, and see how the early years have equipped you (and them) well for this season we are presently living in?
Only the Lord knows our personal future, as well as the changes that will happen in our world, but it is important to pray about those things. Prayer changes things!
It is easy to imagine the world is nearing its end, to see the evil on our screens and wonder where is God. Like David we must take comfort in what God says.
Do that today and read Matthew 24 when Jesus answers his disciple’s question about the end of time.
