Nehemiah – Day 19

Nehemiah 4:12-13

Then the Jews who lived near them came and told us ten times over, “Wherever you turn, they will attack us.” Therefore I stationed some of the people behind the lowest points of the wall at the exposed places, posting them by families, with their swords spears and bows.

The Thought

Naturally those people who are nearest to the enemy territory were the most afraid, and kept repeating their fears. When we repeat things they become a part of us. It is better to repeat positive things than negative ones. We must proclaim what God says over our situations, not what the enemy is saying.

Nehemiah had heard the complaints “ten times over”. So he made adjustments and everyone worked with their weapons by their sides. A picture for us; that we should have at our side the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:17).

It is always better to prepare a plan to resist the enemy, than to have to fight. That’s why we must read and learn more and more of what God’s word teaches us so that we are prepared for the day when satan attacks. He is attacking the world in our time and we need to seek God for the answers.

Action

Read Nehemiah 4 and appreciate how he stood by what God had said to do, no matter how much the enemy planned to thwart his work. He knew it was God’s work, and was determined to continue.

Ask the Lord to reveal to you today what you need to do to combat the enemy who is trying to steal our joy, our families, our cities and our countries.

Learn some key Bible verses to have in your mind at all times, remembering that these builders of God’s earthly city worked with their swords at their sides.
