Nehemiah – Day 14

Nehemiah 2:19-20

But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite official and Geshem the Arab heard about it, they mocked and ridiculed us. “What is this you are doing?” they asked. “Are you rebelling against the king?”
I answered them by saying, “The God of Heaven will give us success. We His servants will start rebuilding, but as for you, you have no share in Jerusalem or any claim or historic right to it.”

The Thought

Enter the enemy!! The devil is never far from any good works being done in the name of The God of Heaven. He still tries to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10), and on this occasion his people were ready to try to wear down the labourers with their words and lying suggestions.

The devil has never changed, he succeeded in tempting Eve with His words, and he still uses the same tactics using people who don’t accept that The God of Heaven is greater, stronger, wiser and much more powerful than His enemy has ever been and ever will be. Hallelujah!

It is interesting that Nehemiah’s response to the enemy begins with “The God of Heaven …”. He is very clear who he and his people are working for. He knows too that as long as the workers focus on the Lord and not the amount of work to be done, that they will succeed. The enemy recoils when we name the God of Heaven as our own Lord.

Action

Thank God for any project He has given you, maybe it is not so big as building the walls of Jerusalem, but whether He wants you to just be nice to a neighbour, or take on an earth changing project He is with you and will help you overcome.
