Nehemiah – Day 10

Nehemiah 2:10

When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official heard about this, (Nehemiah’s mission and the safe passage guaranteed by King Artaxerxes) they were very much disturbed that someone had come to promote the welfare of the Israelites.

The Thought

It seems throughout life for many of us that whenever there are good things happening, there is something bad lurking in the background trying to spoil our joy, and ruin the project.

Right from the beginning of time in the garden of Eden there has been an evil force trying to ruin things for God’s children. Satan is alive and well, and he continues to work as though he rules the world. He has forgotten that he was beaten at the cross and that his days are numbered.

In Nehemiah’s situation there were people who were not happy with his project to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Before he finished, it was not just the walls that he restored, but much more as we will see later in this study.

These two named “enemies” tried many different ways to ruin Nehemiah’s plan, and God’s project, but they failed every time, because Nehemiah was determined to finish what he had started and because God kept him strong right through to the end. He will do the same for you and for me if we trust Him and stay faithful.

Action

Pray today for protection for yourself and those you know who are doing the Lord’s work and feeling “attacked spiritually”. Satan may come against us through relationship problems or financial difficulties, through ill health of ourselves or someone close to us.

Paul, formerly Saul experience many of these things and tells us very clearly to put on the armour of God as protection Ephesians 6:10-18.

Read those verses today and clothe yourself ready for battle.
